I'm a prime example of what "Urban Indian" means. I grew up
in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the influences of gangs and crime.
My life is what belongs in books, in fact, I'm writing it. With
my time in various prisons I've been influenced in another way
of life by some knowledgeable people, the Native life. My mentality
is still street but with more identity pride. With that new change
in my life I've directed a lot of energy into the workings of our
Native population. I possess a mind with many ideas and a heart with
much hope to create something more for the Brothers in this situation
and I mean all Brothers. Many people overlook the warriors within
these concrete walls because of their past mistakes and I admit that
some of the crimes that were committed by certain people is hard to
understand. But they are a small percentage compared to the other
high population that took another road and happen to find themselves
lost. These are people I wish to help in some way. These are the
people that have another chance at life when they are released. If
they are forgotten by loved ones and outcaste by their own people,
who's to say that they won't fall back into the life that got them
in prison in the first place. And there is the very high possibility
that they could do something worse. My mission is to find people
that'll educate them and show them avenues that will take them down
a paved road to a better life.

as: speakers to come talk to us about Native issues and health-professors
to teach us self-realization and knowledge and visitors for our annual
pow-wow celebrate and dance. People with skills to teach us beading,
